Background
The CALP Network is a dynamic global network of over 90 organisations engaged in the critical areas of policy, practice and research in humanitarian cash and voucher assistance (CVA) and financial assistance more broadly. Collectively, CALP members deliver the vast majority of humanitarian CVA worldwide.
What makes the CALP Network unique is its diversity. CALP members currently include local and international non-governmental organisations, United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent Movement, donors, specialist social innovation, technology and financial services companies, researchers and academics, and individual practitioners.
Together we seek to better meet the needs and improve the outcomes for people affected by crisis. To do this we ensure that CVA is a central, scalable component of quality, timely and appropriate humanitarian assistance, and that the need to sustain positive outcomes for people over the longer term is considered.
Context for the work
CALP has several e-learning courses available on the Cash Learning Hub on Kaya as well as on other platforms. CALP regularly updates and re-publishes these courses, including translating them into other languages. This consultancy is specifically focused on building the Arabic translation of two courses.
CALP has recently updated 2 courses, the ‘Linking Social Protection with CVA’ e-learning course and the ‘CVA – The Fundamentals’ e-learning course.
These courses have been built in a combination of Articulate 360 and Rise.
CALP are translating the content of the course, which needs to be re-built in Arabic.
Specific task(s) of the consultancy
CALP will translate the content of these courses into Arabic in Word documents (XLIFF export is not possible for our translation teams).
The courses will be duplicated on Rise, and the Arabic text needs to be manually cut and pasted/dropped into the correct places. Some level of coding will be required to adjust the formatting to right-to-left, (RTL) including bullet points and other graphics as applicable.

Key activities of the consultancy include (with estimated number of days in parentheses):
- Duplicate, populate and format Social Protection course into Arabic and test the final product (7 days)
- Duplicate, populate and format Fundamentals course into Arabic and test the final product (5 days)
Essential profile of the consultant
For this piece of work, CALP is looking for the following expertise:
- Substantial experience of technical building of e-learning courses and online learning.
- Knowledge of Articulate 360 and Rise authoring tools is essential.
- Previous experience building e-learning in Arabic is highly desirable, including experience in formatting course materials from LTR to RTL.
- Working knowledge of Arabic language is essential
- Knowledge of Kaya and Totora/Moodle LMS’s is desirable.
