United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Website Content and Library Tagging Intern

Organization: Cash Learning Partnership
Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
Closing date: 11 Aug 2019

Context:

The Cash Learning Partnership (CaLP) is the global partnership for cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian aid. We are a catalyst for change, accelerating change in the scale and quality cash and voucher assistance. We enable the collaboration necessary to develop practical solutions to collective problems in the sector. Since our founding in 2005, CaLP has been at the forefront of promoting and improving cash and voucher assistance across the humanitarian sector.

CaLP currently has over 80 members, united by their commitment to our shared mission. They deliver the majority of cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian aid worldwide. Our members include UN agencies, donors, international NGOs, local NGOs and private sector organisations.

A small secretariat supports our members to work together. The CaLP secretariat works from offices in Jordan, Kenya, Senegal, Switzerland, the UK and US, while some are home-based. This role will work with CaLP's communications, knowledge management and technical staff on a number of tasks including our website redevelopment and the development of our two flagship initiatives, the Future of Financial Assistance and the State of the World's Cash.

This role will be based with our UK team hosted by Oxfam GB at Oxfam House, Oxford.

Ideally you will be able to offer 2 or 3 days a week for 3 months.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a new website for CaLP.
  • Manage the tagging of CaLP's online resources using defined taxonomy in readiness for migration into the new site.
  • Provide support to preparations for the 'The Future of Financial Assistance' (including work on communications, event management, and participation in UK or online meetings to launch this report).
  • Provide support for the development of CaLP's 'State of the World's Cash' report (including work on communications, event management, and development of an online platform to house this content).
  • Further support for the CaLP secretariat as required based on availability and changing priorities.

Skills and competencies:

Training and support will of course be provided but it will be helpful if you can demonstrate some of the following skills:

  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in English with ability to analyse and synthesise complex information
  • Excellent eye for detail
  • Excellent computer skills, and particularly in Excel
  • Proven self-motivation and experience managing a project independently
  • Interest in International Development and/or awareness of issues related to work or cash and voucher assistance in humanitarian response
  • Knowledge of or experience with content tagging
  • Knowledge of French or Spanish an asset

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • You will be joining thousands of Oxfam volunteers who "won't live with poverty".
  • Excellent work experience within a fast-paced and interesting environment.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a strategic knowledge management project which will have significant impact on the humanitarian cash community of practice
  • Experience of analysing CaLP's publications from a wide range of sources and using such analysis to improve their uptake and usage
  • Opportunity to build key skills relating to working across institutional boundaries, research, communications, and project management.
